Spring is the season of rebirth, growth, and cleaning! When you imagine spring cleaning, you probably think of organizing your house or throwing out some old things, opening the windows to let out the stale winter air, and let in the fresh, new spring. We can clean out our homes, but we can use this season of renewal to clean out our bodies too. When we clean out our bodies, we call it detoxing. One of the best ways to detox our bodies is with yoga. Here are the best detox yoga poses to purify our bodies.

The best yoga poses for daily detoxing are those that include inversions, forward bends, or twists. These poses boost strength and flexibility, improve digestion, and make you feel all-around renewed. As you inhale, lengthen your body; when you exhale, envision anything impure and unwanted in your life leaving your body.

Downward Facing Dog is a fantastic example of an easy inversion pose. Your heart is above your head in an inversion, which encourages blood circulation and purifying the lymph system. To complete Downward Facing Dog, start in table position, on your hands and feet. First, spread your hands shoulder-width apart, your fingers wide apart, with the middle finger pointing forward. Keep your feet hip-width apart and your toes facing forward. Press into your hands, lift your hips towards the ceiling, and reach your chest towards your thighs. Keep your spine long and straight. Keep your heels flat on the floor, stretching out your legs. Let your head and neck hang freely from the shoulders—breath and hold for 5 breaths. To release, bend your knees and lower your hips back into table position or drop into child’s pose.

This detox yoga pose is very similar to a regular Downward Facing Dog, but you lift one leg into the air. Take several deep breaths and alternate between each leg 5 times. This pose helps you detox physically and mentally. It stimulates the release of feelings like depression, anxiety, stress, and fear.

This detox yoga pose is another easy pose. The torso’s compression and gentle movement help stimulate movement in your digestive tract, helping you eliminate built-up ama. To begin, sit flat on your butt and elongate your spine. Place your right hand on the mat behind you and bring your right foot across your left leg, placing your right foot on the floor to the left of your left leg. Make sure both glutes remain in contact with the ground. Hold this position for 5 breaths, deepening the twist on each exhale, then switch legs.

The eagle pose is a twisting pose that boosts circulation and wrings out toxins from your lymphatic and circulatory systems. It also stretches your joints: ankle, elbow, hip, and knee. To perform this pose, begin by standing straight with your legs together and your arms relaxed by your sides. Draw your right foot upward, keeping it pressed against your left leg. Wrap your right foot around your left leg, tucking your right foot behind your left leg in the process. Your thighs should remain touching. Lean forward, then cross your right arm over your left arm. Keep your elbows interlocked. Place your palms together and breathe in slowly. Remain in this pose for two full breaths, then switch legs and arms to the other side.

The boat pose is a phenomenal detox yoga pose that tones your abdomen, hip flexors, and spine. It stimulates your thyroid, intestines, and kidneys too. To assume the boat pose, sit down with your knees bent. Sit back until your spine touches the ground, then stretch your legs outward. Use your abdominal muscles to pull your upper body up until your hands touch your feet. Your body should create a triangle shape. Hold this position for 20 seconds, then release your legs slowly. Repeat 5 times.

This inverted yoga pose boosts circulation by inverting the head below the heart while also encouraging digestion. To get into the wide leg forward fold, begin by placing your feet one leg-length apart and placing your hands on your hips. Inhale and try to touch the sky with the crown of your head. As you exhale, keep your spine straight and fold forward. You can keep your hands on your hips or place them on the mat under your shoulders. Allow your back muscles to relax while keeping your legs stable. Hold this position for 5 breaths.

As we’ve discussed, detoxing is crucial in creating balance, serenity, and health within ourselves. Once we reach a level of health and purity, we can take small steps daily to prevent the buildup of toxins in our systems. Yoga is just one physical activity that can reduce toxin buildup and allow us to live our best, unencumbered lives.

You might also like:

6 Morning Mantras For Your Next Detox

The Best Detox Yoga Poses
